    Vessel, c.2016

I produced a number of images that were intrinsically collage, specifically a series of bottles. These were very tactile, as the bottles were slightly raised against their background. I used torn and cut strips of highly patterned or textured fabrics, gift wrap and newspaper, juxtaposed against one another to create the shape of a bottle. Here, I was exploring other 'vessel' shapes.

Earlier sketchbook work, residing at the back of my A1 sketchbook. I worked from a series of photos I'd taken of cloud formations. I used acrylic paint and emulsion on a collage base. My intention was to emphasise the mass and shape of various cloud formations, recreating the drama of a tumultuous, pre-storm sky. Perfect source material for an artist who primarily enjoys colour and texture.

I have a wealth of source material now for this current 'theme'. I'll add some of my photos at some point to contextualise the source material. In fact, this will probably be something I include in my blog, part of my website, launching imminently.

Beginning to feel like this over-layering of paint is working. I have a definite idea of what I'm hoping to achieve, what the final painting will look like. I like to think of this work developed to a larger, much larger, scale at some point.
