Playing with figuration and abstraction. In this piece, Benjamin Stephenson aims for a sense of mystery and allure with very atmospheric and soft edged areas where the figure can merge with the setting, playing with this distinction between figure and ground as well as a particular focus on colour harmony.

This piece uses a base of natural indigo pigments sourced locally to the artist's studio in Oaxaca, Mexico, and then it is prepared (sized) and finished with oil paints in thin washes of colour to create the atmospheric effect.
