Playing with figuration and abstraction, this piece is a study into how much we can flirt with the boundaries between the two and still maintain some semblance of an image. In this series Stephenson aims for a sense of mystery and allure with very atmospheric and soft edged paintings, as well as a particular focus on colour harmony and capturing a sense of movement or figures in motion. Made with natural pigments sourced in Oaxaca, Mexico, and oil paint on canvas.
