About Simon Goss

  • Biography
I have always drawn. The study of human anatomy (life drawing) is a traditional discipline that encompasses line, form, perspective, composition and colour and reminds me that I trained as a draftsman first.

My paintings are drawn in soluble graphite on handmade paper, painted over with watercolour, this blends the linework which underpins the colour. The paper has a nice variance from sheet to sheet making the results less predictable with some sheets being waxy, others absorbent.

I try to draw and paint as often as I can. I am open to commissions.

Event: Royal Society of Portrait Painters Annual Exhibition 2021

    Dates: 6 May 2021 - 12 May 2021

    Venue: The Mall Gallery, London

My oil portrait "Trixie in Lockdown - Covid-19 Portrait No.3" has been accepted for this prestigious annual exhibition.

There is always so much to enjoy in this exhibition, from the faces depicted in the portraits, both famous and unfamiliar, to the wide variety of high-quality paintings. It is a celebration of the very best in contemporary portraiture nationally and internationally.

Unlike other portrait exhibitions, it is rigorously selected by professional portrait painters who themselves have been elected by their peers to the Society. It is one of the world’s most extensive contemporary portrait exhibitions forming a showcase of some 200 works.
