    The Elbrus

When my youngest daughter was born in the summer of 2017, I was invited to a completely crazy creative trip to Elbrus. People usually prepare for months to touch the difficult mystery of climbing. I put warm clothes in a backpack, collected a paintbox and set off. The experience of an old emergency worker helped me. I coped with the work both in the valley and on the peaks, after which I was really ill for two months. But this trip brought an extraordinary series of sketches and finished paintings.

    The Solovki Islands

    The Solovki Islands

A harsh place to live and paint. And why do thousands of tourists and painters come here all the time? And here is a place of power. It would seem meager in color, but so interesting for painting. Monastery, the White Sea, islands, islands, islands.... seagulls, stones, fortress, monks, boats, ships, old wooden houses with large windows. People here have experienced a terrible story. But they survived and remained human. I'll go again one day. The photo was taken by my friend Alexander Filippov, a wonderful photographer. There was a renovation at the monastery, and I had to draw here.

Winter plein air by a beautiful manor Marjino

Winter plein air by a beautiful manor Marjino

I come back here quite often. The beautifully restored mansion and all the courtyard buildings are very picturesquely inscribed in a wonderfur countryside landscape. At any time of the year, it's wonderful here: in summer why we paint peonies, in autumn - you can just paint everything in a row - such gold, in winter Carnival. Once, as a prize, I lived in this manor after winning an academical painting competition. I painted a few sketches a day, there is a whole series of paintings from this estate.
