About Anna Schill

  • Biography
I am a native Russian painter born in the Siberian city of Novosibirsk and based in Worpswede today. The fact that my family is of German descent played an important role in giving me an impulse to move to Germany. I studied Free Painting and Art Education at Novosibirsk Academy of Arts. I was still in Russia when I started to create as an artist, while at the same time heading an Art School for children and adults. Over the years I gained experience in different painting techniques. My signature style is a reaction against the abstract Expressionism that has been dominating since the mid–20th century. Instead, I embraced symbolical, narrative and figurative style. Today my main focal points are classical oil and watercolor painting. In the meantime, along with many works in the domain of landscape painting and still life, my focus has settled on the „realistic symbolism“. Through my paintings I am creating a narrative, using symbolism and human body. Biblical motifs, myths and legends inspire my art. Currently, I work on a big set of paintings in portrait format, containing different emblematic elements and structures. In July 2022 I had my Solo Exhibision in Worpswede, a former home to a lively artistic community.
