About Rebecca Miller

  • Biography

My aims when I’m making art are to create something beautiful, which creates an emotional response or mood; to make something unique, which explores a message or theme that matters to me, and which hopefully other people will connect with.

I use watercolour, oils, pencils, ink, oil pastels, and digital art software. I’m also experimenting in making collagraph prints. I like to use different styles and paint varied subjects. My work is often detailed, and full of colour and light.

Most of the pictures I have painted in the past year have been of flowers or landscapes that have had a beauty that I wanted to capture. Or, I have begun with experimenting with the properties of the media, and either created a purely abstract work, or then built on the natural free effects with detail to create a figurative painting.

Of the artists’ I’m influenced by, my current favourites are Van Gogh and Nita Engle.. I love the colour, vibrancy and life in Van Gogh's art. I am learning a lot from Nita Engle's approach to watercolour.
