About Rebecca Carter

  • Biography
I am a self-taught oil-painter with a passion for the natural world; my style is detailed and hyper-realistic. Using unusual viewpoints, water distortion, fragmented light and rich colour palettes, I explore the surreal and abstract qualities of real life. My portrait paintings are close cropped and intimate; I love to bring out the beautiful and unexpected colours found in skin and hair if you look close enough. Ever since I can remember I’ve also been fascinated with life beneath the ocean waves. I work in marine conservation and am passionate about protecting wildlife and the environment. Naturally this obsession influences me creatively and I often paint animals and scenes that I have been fortunate enough to encounter during my travels. I hope that my work can be enjoyed by other nature enthusiasts and inspire others to care for wildlife.
