About Rita Pranca

  • Biography

My name is Rita Pranča. I live in Latvia in the countryside beside a forest and wild fields. My history as an artist started when I was 18 and decided to study in Latvian Academy of Fine Arts. I also attended painting and drawing courses, continuous studies of figurative art.

I used to paint also at plain air but very often I saw the visual spirit of the place through anthromorphic visualisation.
One of projects from later years resulted in series of paintings dedicated to classic mythology. It was a protest of female artist against the common practice of nude female paintings. I chose to paint naked male body. My heroes were Icarus, Narcissus, St . Sebastian and others.

When I was 24 years I started participating in exhibitions mainly with big format figurative paintings. The main theme of my paintings became expression of my emotions about the surrounding environment through the human body, mostly female body. The deep study of my own personality was expressed in my works.
