About Marta Spendowska

  • Biography

Hi / Cześć ! My name is Marta—I'm a Polish-American, NH Seacoast-based fine artist, and illustrator, on a journey to find the perfect Blue. When I'm not painting, I read Emily Dickinson, do handstands & brew hibiscus tea.

Since '07 I've worked with many art collectors, consultants, interior designers, and brands such as Anthropology, Lancome, Kotex, Better Homes & Gardens, and many more. My art is featured in many hotels, residencies, and private collections.

As an artist, I am at the mercy of beauty and spirituality, which I recognize as twin sisters. They are the strongest influences and have become the biggest motivators in my daily life—like my morning coffee—they trigger my energy and allow it to flow freely. By learning from my experiences, I have become the unique author of my knowledge. And so I paint what I know.

My approach is primarily aesthetic, to balance elegance and harmony through colors, and subject.

Water media is my preferred tool because it is immediately responsive; it reminds me that life does not allow for “do-overs.” The fluidity of my materials allows me to be spontaneous, with no plan or obligation other than to react to what is happening with this paper, that brush, this moment.

This intuitive process of painting helps me delve into intangible, hidden, heart-felt places—something akin to painting as prayer.

    WELCOME to my world.
