Biography
In my paintings, I try to communicate the feeling of beauty in nature, flowers and everyday objects using bright colors to express how I feel about them. I often use a palette knife technique and lots of paint to experiment with color and shapes. I admire Van Gogh and the Impressionists including Cezanne, and many others of that era. However, I love the freedom of Matisse's paintings and the color and images of abstract painters, especially Kandinsky, Rothko and Picasso to name a few. There are many more masterful artists of the past and present that I admire and look to for inspiration. I believe that trying and experimenting with new colors, styles and mediums fulfills my creative spirit the most. Besides oils, I experiment with acrylics, watercolors, pastels, colored pencils, charcoal, alcohol inks and sketching pencils.
Prior to my painting career, I was employed as an English teacher and Reading and Writing Specialist. My education included a liberal arts B.S. degree, a M.Ed. in Education and Art. I taught all ages from Pre-school through college during that period. I am married, have four sons and seven grandchildren which also keeps me busy. I also perform on piano, keyboard and guitar with local musicians. While I mostly paint what pleases and inspires me, I occasionally do paint on commissions for customers who desire a specific theme or scene.
