A debut solo exhibition of 15 original pastels on the theme Wet & Dry. The 6 'Wet' pastels featured people swimming, diving and floating in water and the 9 'Dry' pastels were portraits of people closely associated with Govanhill Baths. These portraits were undertaken to honour the people who work hard to raise much needed funds to have the Baths reinstated after their enforced closure in March 2001.
Biography
After studying at Grays School of Art, Aberdeen in the late 70s gaining a degree in Graphic Design and Printmaking, I spent the next 33 years working as a Graphic Designer and along with raising my family I rarely found the time to draw. I took part in a Facebook drawing challenge called 28 Drawings Later in 2012 and had to post a drawing a day for the month of February. With my drawing mojo now fully restored I found the daily discipline reignited my passion for drawing once more!
I work mainly in pastels, charcoal and chalk as I love the tactility of this type of medium - I love the physicality of connecting with the paper as I blend and push the intensely coloured powdered pigments into the grain of the surface. I find it a deeply satisfying creative experience.
My influences come from a broad variety of artists such as Bacon, Carravagio, Degas, Freud, Klimt, Lautrec, Manet, Mucha and Schiele.
