Event: H I L A N D E R A
Dates: 14 Nov 2014 - 21 Jan 2015
‘ H I L A N D E R A ’ at The Edinburgh Hispanic Festival celebrates the unique fusion between Hispanic and Scottish Culture. The exhibition highlights and investigates the influence of Scottish philosophical and scientific thought on multimedia Spanish artist Julio Campos, who currently lives in London.
He was deeply influenced by the Scottish thinker Maryel Gardyne when he illustrated the cover and images contained in her book ‘The atom and the Octave’. Her work inspired him to realize his original series of work called Thread Portals, exhibited at the G3 Depot. The current exhibition includes a ‘Happening’ and a Thread Portal site specific installation of a cone shape and harmonic patterns that will investigate multicultural connections and develop his work further into a multi dimensional realm.
Biography
The
Universe vibrates at different frequencies, some of which we as humans
are able to attune to. These sounds of differing frequencies created by
the strings length are also relevant in my work as sound has a physical
impact on our world creating harmonic patterns to take us to a cosmic
symphony of exploration and discovery.
Thread Portals are created by cyclical divisions of twelve showing
correspondences with the zodiac, months, seasons, hours, minutes,
octave, angles etc. Thread Portals are harmonically proportioned as is
always found in the rhythm of the universe. The colours and mood of
Thread Portals constantly morphs depending on the light conditions.
