About Jose Rouco

  • Biography
My primary medium is pen and ink and wash, I am mostly self taught, I studied painting in college, but I was drawn to the way I can capture the effects of light and shadow using pen and ink. I admire realism and attention to detail and craftsmanship; the unending quest to achieve mastery of the medium. Pen and ink allows me to render the details of all the parts that make up these natural things that I appreciate so much. I am amazed at the complexity and the work that God puts into even it’s smallest creation. I have always enjoyed nature, and the most relaxing times of my life have been spent outdoors.

I have been influenced by many sources, some well known, some not. Maxfield Parrish, Arthur Rackham, Edward Hopper, Andrew Wyeth, too many to name.  All have all left their stamp on me.
