About Jan Erichsen

  • Biography
My aim in painting is to capture something extraordinary in everyday life. I want to give expression to both the obvious and invisible connections between nature's and life's elements. By using alternately aqueous, glazing and thicker, saturated paint layers, I depict the details that make up the particular atmospheric mood of the chosen sceneries.

Having grown up in a landscape dominated by marshes and moorlands, I explored artistic techniques such as drawing with charcoal and watercolours. Back than, I was attracted by the big skies, the often flooded fields and the ever changing light of my childhood´s home-landscape in northern Germany. Later I moved to the Baltic Sea coast and began to use oil paint as the main medium to realize my artistic thoughts.

I work as an observer of landscapes and motifs, waiting until the moment comes when shapes, colours and light form a harmonious whole.
