About Becki Flack

  • Biography
I have a degree in Fine Art Painting from De Montfort University. I also studied Portraiture at Kensington and Chelsea College and Children's Illustration at Chelsea College of Art.

I have 2 main bodies of work that are very different. One is the productive of collages of Nature in its most idealised form as a type of vivid paradise. I create the work on a landscape that I’ve painted in oils then I play with different images from decoupage or cut out of wrapping paper or magazines until I find a composition I like. Flowers are used for their beauty and colour, and also fruit, butterflies and birds. Sometimes I use coloured pencil to blend the collage with the painted background. I wish to produce mini celebrations of life that give me pleasure and inspire joy in the viewer.

The other body of work is a series of oil paintings called 'The World of Tita Petita Chihuahua'. Tita is my very special Chihuahua. I adopted her when she was 2 years and 7 months 19 days old. She likes to dress up as Characters and has all sorts of incarnations as a Rapper, Nurse, Sailor, Samba singer and Dancer, Witch, Hawaiian dancer etc. She is like the 'Mr Ben' of Chihuahuas. For anyone who is younger than me I will explain who Mr Benn was. He was a character in a cartoon created by David Mc Kee that I watched in the 70's and it was my favourite programme. Every week Mr Benn went to a Fancy Dress shop where the shop keeper would give him a costume to try on. he then went through a magic door opening on to a world appropriate to his costume and then had an adventure. After the adventure the shop owner always appeared and Mr Benn went back to the fitting room and continued his normal life. So it is with Tita Petita Chihuahua. She puts on a costume and has an adventure. Some of the paintings have poems that accompany them and are soon to be published in a book called 'The Adventures of Tita Petita Chihuahua.'
