About Andrew Kinmont (ARBSA)(MAFA)

  • Biography

As humans we have evolved from nature and therefore have a deeply ingrained physical and spiritual connection with it.

I respond to my own sensory experience of landscape by making works which themselves trigger the senses and resonate on a deeply emotive level. These paintings act as vehicles to reconnect with places, experiences or memories deep in our subconscious, taking viewers on a journey of their own.

I love the sensuality of paint, used in direct, gestural brushstrokes, and its ability to evoke the rough, raw experience of the natural world.

Member of Manchester Academy of Fine Art

One of only a few artists selected to become a member of the prestigious Manchester Academy of Fine Art. Founded in 1859, the Academys' members have made outstanding contributions to the cultural life of the UK. It was responsible for the only art exhibitions to be staged in Manchester in both world wars. Classes run by academicians have influenced many students, including L.S. Lowry. Today the membership of a hundred plus painters, sculptors and printmakers represents the best in fine art across the region. To be one of only a few artists choosen to become a member is a highlight of my career and bodes well for the future development and value of my work.
