About Viktoria Koestler

  • Biography
ABOUT: Viktoria Koestler was born and raised in Germany, and currently lives in Zurich. After completing a degree in psychology and working for an international strategy and management consultancy, Viktoria devoted her attention to her artwork, receiving training from Chelsea College of Arts (London) and Sotheby’s Institute of Art (New York City). Viktoria has exhibited her artwork in major cities across Europe, the United States, and the United Kingdom. The most important milestone in her exhibition record was her solo show in New York City, in November 2019.

WHY I CREATE ART: My art is meant to give people hope in these uncertain times. In our world of today, we are constantly dealing with change and uncertainty. The recent Coronavirus pandemic has demonstrated that there is no way back to the ‘old world’.

A new creation is required: a new meaningful definition of how we want to live and how we will treat the most precious thing we have, our natural environment. When creating my art, I find myself in deep states of flow, enjoying every moment and letting my intuition come before my rational mind. I love creating artwork that deeply connects to the audience and that reminds people of their dreams and hopes, but also of their flaws and unpleasant experiences in life.

Art can help people to re-examine themselves and their lives in a very sophisticated way. For me, art gives hope during a crisis and helps us to constantly remind ourselves to have a vision. Finding yourself, and losing your conscious mind, are very captivating concepts that I want to cover with my art.
I mostly paint abstract landscapes or organic forms and shapes that remind people of the beauty of human nature, on medium-sized or large- sized canvases or wooden boards. Connecting to human nature gives us hope and provides those ‘grounding moments’ in our digitized and fast-paced environment.

I work with oils and acrylics and through my glazing and transparent layering technique, I create vibrancy and depth in my work.
