About Konnie Kim

  • Biography
It is the beauty and power of nature, real and imagined that inspires me. Influenced by the Fauves and the Impressionists, I like to paint with bold and radiant colors. Minimalist by nature, I prefer a limited palette and simple composition in my work. My transitional style fuses the traditional technical training with contemporary sensibility of color and design.

I usually start my paintings with sketches I have done on location or photographs I take while wondering beautiful places. At this stage my logical and mathematical left brain comes in handy. I am mainly concerned with the composition and color scheme. Then the right brain kicks in its contribution. I put my sketches and photos away and let the painting lead the rest of the way. The painting will tell me when it's happy and when it's not. I follow my gut and give the painting what it needs. When the painting finally conveys the "emotion" of the moment, I sign the painting.
