About Jules Morissette

  • Biography
Nature is my main source of inspiration. It touches me with its light, the harmony of its colors and its vastness. I like to feel part of this immensity. Drawing and painting allow me to fully accomplish this integration. My creations seem to touch people and selling online is a way for me to convey the positive emotions of my art to others.

My intention is to recreate what I feel in front of a particular landscape or context, without limiting myself to the constraints of figurative realism. The majority of my works are done in acrylic on canvas, in color or monochrome.

With a more intimate approach, I let my subconscious express itself in the creation of my monochrome works. The realization here is strongly influenced by sumi-e, a Japanese art characterized by the relative stripping of the composition. It is then a question of knowing how to balance form with emptiness, and above all, knowing when one has "said" enough. My playground is the emptiness of the white canvas, it is the space of a fertile universe of all possibilities.

Chosen twice in 2021 among the jury's favorites for painting exhibitions

First in June 2021, I was selected to participate in the collective exhibition of the Jury's Coups de cœur of the Espace culturel du Quartier de Saint-Nicolas. This exhibition presented the "favorites" works of art of the jury following the call for applications for the Espace de diffusion culturel Desjardins. It brought together diverse works, produced by eight artists, mostly from Lévis and Chaudière-Appalaches.

Then in November 2021, I was selected among the favorites of the Village en Arts symposium in Saint-Nicolas! The exhibition was presented at the Espace Culturel du Quartier, which is now recognized as an accredited museum institution!

Event: Sumi-e inspired works by Jules Morissette

    Dates: 4 Jun 2022 - 5 Jun 2022

Event: Au coeur des grands espaces

    Dates: 2 Oct 2021 - 14 Nov 2021

Venue: Au coeur des grands espaces, Station des Arts, Thetford-Mines, Canada

The exhibition is both a foray into the artist's mind and an exploration of the landscapes that inspire him. It comes in four parts: Subjects, Zen, Allegories and Exploration.

    SUBJECTS
Inspiring by their beauty and vastness, the mountains and the great St. Lawrence River are the two recurring subjects of Jules Morissette's corpus. Offering both a far-reaching reach to the gaze while arousing a certain meditation, these subjects allow the artist to express the inner peace that inhabits him in contact with the beauties of nature.

    ZEN
The creation of the artist’s monochrome works is strongly influenced by sumi-e. This Japanese art is characterized by the sobriety of the composition. Here the spontaneity of the gesture is essential to the creation of the work. The result is uncluttered works evoking the great spaces accessible by the mind once freed from everyday concerns.
