About Jenifer Dapper

  • Biography

Being a major history buff, inspiration for my work usually stems from nostalgia as well as current events found in literature, nature, and popular culture. Educated, and having worked, as an art historian, I am fascinated by many styles and philosophies of artistic practices with some of my favourite works created by artists during the Realist, Impressionist, Fauvist and Modern art periods, to name a few. These interests led me to explore several artistic styles and while much of my past work and my commissions have portrayed a more realistic style, in my more recent practice I have concentrated on form and exploring the patterns that inevitably evolve by examining the the relationships of juxtaposing shapes, lines and especially colours. Whether it be in portraits, still lifes or landscapes, I find that equally examining the areas that exist within subjects - both obvious and subordinate - and concentrating on these natural patterns of form, diverse images are revealed and reflect things that are often missed to the naked eye. My favourite medium is painting (in oil and acrylic) and I mostly work from my own photography and sketches, usually combining visual ideas from several images to create a composition. Residing near London, I'm fortunate to have a plethora of inspiring subject matter at my doorstep.
