About Jasmine Kroeze

  • Biography
My name is Jasmine Kroeze and I am an artist based oceanside in Pāpāmoa Beach, New Zealand. My art, along with my personality is driven by inclusivity and harmony. My art is primarily a hybrid of abstract and illustrative styles, with loose references to iconography. I am heavily influenced by my formal training in fashion and textile design. My creative process begins with creating shapes and forms through drawing or paper cut-outs.

My signature aesthetic is achieved through layering and use of bold shapes and colour, using a blend of digital and manual processes. My journey as an artist spans 16 years, during which I have had the privilege of showcasing my work in a variety of galleries, public spaces and exhibitions.

My ambition spans across multiple creative industries with experience in graphic design, textiles, large scale murals and painting original artworks. My entry into original paintings is a beautiful story. While designing for a local clothing brand, my husband bought me a gift of a plywood panel. I had mentioned to him that I wanted to try and paint abstract as a creative outlet. He activated me and using house paint, I splashed around and created my most horrendous piece of art I've made! But the intention behind the piece was holds the prize of being my most raw and significant piece. That one artwork gave me the confidence to apply for an artist call out to paint a mural. Because of my textile background, my brain's default canvas is set to 1.1 - 1.5 metres. Apparently 5 metres wide is not so much of a stretch! Mural painting was amazing, however I wanted to have a more accessible outlet, something I could do in the comfort of my own garage and nurture my introverted needs for alone time.

My WHY behind my art is quite simple. As a creative, I believe one of the most important things we can do for ourselves and our practice is to PLAY. My art is an exploration in play and I love to see the evolution of my style in retrospect. My preference has always been to paint quite large, however within the last few months I have been playing with smaller canvases. Collaboration has also been a cornerstone of my practice. This has led my artwork to be licensed on apparel, homeware, stationery, giftware and even coffee cups.

I have had the honour of working with the likes of Kathmandu, John Sands, Bolt of Cloth, BioPak, Nyne and more. I strive to breathe life into art that is captivating but also gently challenges perspectives and sparks connections. With a deep passion for art, my professional background and a track record of artistic excellence means I am able to bring concepts to life with confidence.
