Royal West of England Academy Artist Network Members’ show.

I was really pleased to have my new pair of sculptures, the Chair Riders, shown at the Royal West of England Academy Artist Network Members’ show. Firstly it was amazing to have been accepted as an Artist Network Members by this esteemed establishment, and then it was wonderful to have been selected to exhibit in this show.

    Bristol Museum "Make Space" introduction

This is a video that I made to publicise showing my work at Bristol Museum's "Make Space" - a room given to individual local makers to show their work alongside the Woman's Hour Craft Prize Touring Exhibition in 2018. Although from a couple of years ago it gives a succinct inside into my making and casting processes. You can see the King Chariot and King Carrier sculptures in their original wax form before I moulded and cast them.

    Preparing sculpture bases

    Preparing sculpture bases

This is how I prepare the bases for my sculptures. First I consider well what size base a sculpture should have. There is a certain amount of estimation through experience for this because I have to project what the sculpture will look like on the base before it is actually fixed to it. If the base is too big then the sculpture looks lost on it, and if it is too small then it looks awkward. Once I have determined the base size then all of the edition will have the same size base. I also have to get the sculpture in the right place in the same position on all of them, so I make myself a template to indicate where the fixings should be. I order the bases cut to size, but I need to finish them by hand. This picture shows me sanding their edges before I remove the protective coverings.

    Bizarre Creature Casting

Here is the Bizarre Creature having been popped out of its mould, iridescent with the light behind it. Now it just needs to be cleaned up and then I will add small amounts of colour, especially to the eyes.
