About Catherine Hadler

  • Biography
I'm a photographer and painter - I love to create paintings inspired by Primitive Art, especially Australian Aboriginal and Native North American Art.  The paintings are based loosely on molecular and cell structures, and use acrylics on canvas - occasionally mixed with enamels or collage for texture.  The overall theme is of chaos - the title Circles of Confusion is a photographic term, which seems to fit the work.
I am currently working on a new series - Nefarious Compounds, which is based on molecular structures of hormones and medicines.  Inspired by Aboriginal maps and landscapes, the paintings are built up in layers of acrylic and enamel.
My photographs primarily use colours and textures found in marinas and boat yards, reflecting my love of the sea.
