About Biserka Petrovic

  • Biography
My painting concept investigates the ways we perceive things around us, and different points of view, according to Gestalt psychology and quantum physics, connecting traditional painting with new practices that leave space for the spectators to interpret and interact with the artwork.

I have few different series based on these ideas. I was inspired by Gestalt theory many years ago, so I developed the gray Human Puzzle series with missing and movable parts.
The observer will perceive which subject is on the painting even if it doesn’t have all the pieces – that doesn’t deprive it of the meaning (according to Gestalt theory)
Everybody sees the whole that they represent, but everybody also substitutes the missing parts with their own explanation, based on one’s previous experiences.

From that I passed to Parallel Universes and Portraits Open Books which connect Gestalt and String theory. You see two worlds intersect and you do not see all the parts. In Books you can litteraly change the point of view by opening the painting.
