About Frederick Worrell

  • Biography

My name is Frederick and I am a London-based Award Winning Maori Artist. I create contemporary art pieces and photography for the interior design and architectural sector, as well as commissioned pieces for individuals.

I was born and grew up in Whakatane, New Zealand. My art reflects the love of the cultures that were surrounded me my entire life. Through family, friends, neighbours and teachers, I was encouraged to travel and follow a journey of discovery and connection, a journey now expressed in my work.

Creating new art excites me. I like creating bright, vibrant pieces. I like how art can challenge people’s thinking. I love how it can inspire and create an emotional response. I create aesthetically beautiful, decadent pieces - statement pieces - that make people feel great inside.

I love having the freedom to express my innermost self through my creations. Moving to the UK in 2014 has allowed me to discover my British heritage and connect this with my Maori identity.

The essence of my work is inspired by nature, texture and colour which can be seen in the strong use of gestures and movement in my brushstrokes and also by my use of mixed mediums.

As well as producing new paintings and art to add to my own collection, I also work on commissions for private clients across the world.
