About Agnieszka Monika Dolata

  • Biography
I began my art career studying traditional drawing and painting techniques at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. Since I started exhibiting, my artworks were quickly recognised at prestigious competitions in Berlin, Milan, London and Warsaw and sold to private and national collections. For several years I was sharing my knowledge working as a lecturer at the Krakow School of Art and Fashion Design. Though my artworks have been celebrated internationally, I also create and work with contemporary dancers and theatres locally in London bringing my ideas to set designs and site-specific projects.

I paint dreams and sketch souls. My deep interest in philosophy and physiology of seeing, along with questioning identity is the essence of my practice. I use my artworks like mirrors: reflecting what lies beneath the surface of consciousness and exploring the identity of a woman stripped from contemporary expectations of perfect appearance, aspirations, behaviour and even spirituality. By questioning the boundaries between visible and invisible, I seek to capture the elusive and fragmented fabric of our dreams and desires, stripped from anything that we were taught to see; those rare moments when emotions and unconscious landscapes reveal a person’s true self: Their light and their shadows. By making those fluttering and elusive thoughts visible and often touching on sensitive subjects, I use conceptual images and dreamlike landscapes to reach for sensations and feelings rather than chasing direct representations. Selling my artworks in London and south east coast galleries allows me to reach only fraction of the audience and potential clients. As the pandemic forced many galleries to temporarily close I would like to take this opportunity to move some of my sales online and I believe that Artfinder is a perfect platform to share my art.
