About Sylwia Wenska

  • Biography
For me painting is freedom. In our lives, we encounter rules, regulations and social norms. But when I paint, I can paint anything. It can be nice, ugly, kitschy, offensive, different - because that is the way I want it to be. I don't fight with myself for consistency, it's my greatest luxury. I get bored quicky and I change my painting style, colours, methods and motifs often. I don't make sketches and I don't have the problem of inspiration or artist's block. I can't keep up with the amount of ideas I have. I really like Picasso's words: “Inspiration exists but it has to find you working". I love creative "pirouettes" – after a series of romantic portraits, a red rhinoceros; then between Saint Catherine and Saint Teresa some fluorescent flowers; and then the Powerpuff Girls. In my studio I paint with acrylic paint on a roll of canvas, without a wooden stretcher. A stretcher covered with canvas and placed on an easel does not withstand the "creative aggression" on my part. I want to sell on Artfinder because I think that the real recipient of my art is international. In my eyes Poland's artistic taste is still developing and many buyers choose the "safest" option.
