  • Ever wondered about Egg Tempera

Ever wondered what artists used to paint with before oil paints were discovered? The answer may surprise you. It was things that were easily available like milk and eggs. I found out about egg tempera by accident a few years ago and since then have completely fallen in love with it. If you would like to learn what it is and how you use it then this is for you. Or if you are interested in a brief history here is a link to my first ever live demo of egg tempera for an online art fair.

Paint out Norfolk at Sainsbury's Art Centre, Norwich

You can tell by my extremely cheesy grin, how chuffed I was to recieve first prize in the mixed media category for PON in July this year. Painting was of the white deer of Houghton Hall in Norfolk and painted en plein air using traditional egg tempera and sold to one of the judges.

Thrilled to see my painting beautifully framed and presented to the Superintendent of Windsor Castle. So honoured and proud to say it has now been added to HM the Queen's private art collection.

Painting hung at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital on Holt ward

Painting hung at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital on Holt ward

Was delighted this week to be invited back to my old ward where I used to work prior to the gastroenterology department to see them hang one of my paintings. I completed it last year as a gift to the ward. The ward sister had always wanted a picture of the Norfolk village to hang in Holt's reception area to brighten it up for patients, visitors and staff to the ward. Was amazing to see it framed and hung up but the best bit was seeing all my old work colleagues.

I never thought I would have the luxury of my own studio. This year my dream finally came true as part of the garage was converted to enable me to keep all my work set up and ready to go when I get time to paint. Its small, but perfect for me to create art in.
