About Talya Johnson

  • Biography

I believe that art is a universal language. It glorifies our diversity, yet reminds us of our similarity. It anchors down what is and hints at what may be. The hints of my future were first ignited while watching my mother paint. The flame fueled by passionate mentors, and inspiring artists has now become impossible to extinguish.

Fine art painting and portraiture is my pursuit of intelligence, truth, and human connectedness. In creating artwork, I look for the deeper layers, metaphors, and stories that are just beyond the surface everyday vision.

I paint and sketch from life whenever possible. The experience of being present in the with my subject is imperative to my painting process. Through the paint I speak to humanity. I share a thought, a memory, an insight. I try to capture the essence of my subject through color, texture, rhythm, or movement. I celebrate life’s perfect moments on canvas, thick with paint, and mixed with my heart.
