About Michelle Hewitt

  • Biography
I got interested in painting wildlife during primary school when a teacher gave me a print of Albrecht Dürer’s Young Hare to study. The portraits by Rubens also impressed me from an early age with their detail and depiction of character - particularly the eyes.
Now living & working in the East Neuk of Fife I am a detailed painter and strong believer that the eyes are the window to the soul and as such will paint the eyes in full detail before continuing the rest of the work. (This technique proves a little tricky with  landscapes but I do what I can)
I work predominantly in pastel as it doesn’t require any drying time and offers a soft definition ideal for fur & feathers.
A large proportion of my work is  commission based and it’s always exciting to take on new projects. My work sells worldwide and I personally exhibit my work at a variety of public shows and events throughout UK.
