About Roz Howling

  • Biography
I have been experimenting with printmaking for the last few years, inspired by the prints of Elizabeth Fink, Andy Warhol and Frank Marc (wood block carvings).

I am attracted to printmaking as I’m able to pull multiple prints from a single plate which enables me to experiment with colour, mark making and texture, whilst the process can be quite graphic and draws on my love of drawing and planning. I enjoys comparing the outcomes from the original image to develop and stylise my technique.

I take inspiration from the landscapes that surround me and, in particular, the animals in my life. Living near Newmarket, the thoroughbred horse hugely inspires my work. Its speed, agility and elegance combined with the energy and colour of a race make for interesting compositions. The trees and agricultural landscape also feature in my work, often including landscapes I’ve walked and ridden through. Recently, I’ve started painting and had success in selling these direct. This is an area I continue to work and develop, as my thirst to develop and produce increases.
