About Richard Long

  • Biography
My work draws on a combination of broad influences, from the glamorous era of mid 20th century travel and tourism posters to film and the performing arts, music, fashion, poetry and story telling. The human form always featuring prominently.

My ideas normally begin with a pencil sketch which is then developed with pen, ink, or watercolour.

I am conscious of the importance of cultural influence, which supports and affects the way I construct my illustrations.

Through the use of traditional media combined with Photoshop, I endeavor to express mood, character and movement in the creation of imaginative new work.

Artists I admire include René Gruau, Sara Singh, Stina Persson, David Downton and Michael Carson.
