EMERGENCE - MARBLE - FROM THE BLOCK - VI

Until you get to the surface detail, with files, rifflers and rasps. The piece is almost finished now. What is left is the finest and subtlest of details, these will be finished in my studio in the UK...and I will start a new figure in Italy, in the spring.

EMERGENCE - MARBLE - FROM THE BLOCK - II

Completely different from the work I do in clay, working in stone is all about removing the stone with hammers, chisels and grinders to reveal the figure inside

Emergence - Marble - from the Block

Last year I began to learn how to carve Marble in Italy. It has been a steep learning curve and continues to be so. I suspect that I will be learning until my hands can't hold the chisel any more...it is the same with all ares of life I suppose.

Figure for the Magic Mirrors - Upcoming new Piece

Figure for the Magic Mirrors - Upcoming new Piece

One of the new pieces that I am working on, is made partly out of stainless steel mirrors. The two mirrors when put together, create an optical illusion of whatever is trapped inside the mirrors. The mirrors need to be perfect parabolas, getting these manufactured has been a challenge...but we're nearly there. I am currently making the piece at 49cm, with 34cm mirrors. Once this is finished I will use it as the maquette for a life size piece, in marble and bronze. At the moment the figure is having muscles and bones placed on the armature, this is all about precise measuring and accurate placement. Once this is finished, I will start to work from life again.
