About Philip Baker

  • Biography
Now retired and living in Thanet. I am but a short distance away from The Turner contemporary at Margate. I call it The Turnip Centre. Turners coast. Jaw dropping views of seas and skies. I am in awe of Turners achievements. How it happened I dont know but Lowry crept in there somehow!  I  paint watercolours mostly in sepia and monochrome. Depicting Thanet in earlier times and inspired by early photography of local towns folk and street activity. I search in secondhand bookshops for street view and events in Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate. A sense of urgency has enterned my work. As a survivor of a life changing health event I am driven to express my painting skills for folk to enjoy in years to come
