About Peter James Field

  • Biography
I am a full time freelance illustrator and fine artist with over ten years of professional experience. My art is principally figurative, exploring a strong fascination with people and places. My work features in the 2018 BP Portrait Award in London's National Portrait Gallery, and I have recently started to move my core practice from a longstanding career in commercial illustration towards fine art. My shop on Artfinder offers highlights from a huge archive of personal and commissioned artworks from the previous 13 years - from small scale drawn pieces to painted portraits and larger observational scenes, many of which have been featured in books (for example 'Sketchbooks: The Hidden Art of Designers, Illustrators and Creatives', published Laurence King) or high profile magazines (eg 40 small pencil portraits for the Time Magazine 'Time 100' special edition in 2011). I can't wait to bring my work into the homes and hearts of passionate art collectors.

    Event: BP Portrait Award

    Dates: 12 Oct 2018 - 30 Nov 2018

    Venue: Wolverhampton Art Gallery, Wolverhampton

I am pleased to have my portrait of 'Robert' included in the prestigious BP award show which comes to Wolverhampton after a successful three month run at London's National Portrait Gallery. The exhibition is an annual celebration of contemporary painted portraiture by artists of all ages from across the world. The competition is one of the most important platforms for portrait painters and one of the largest global arts competitions.
This year, 2667 entries were received from artists in 88 countries. Each was judged anonymously by a panel of judges (the artists’ name, nationality, gender and age were withheld) and the list was gradually reduced to just 48 exceptional portraits for the exhibition.
