Biography
“Such mystery and power in the depths and space of the Ocean... I have been inspired and fell in love with the Ocean since I have met it at first sight - the sound it makes, the feel of the waves, and the amazing plethora of creation that lives within it!”
Olena Abakumova is a fine artist based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the USA. Originally from Ukraine, Olena began creating art at a young age, and until today painting is a great passion and big part of her life. Olena`s creative talent have been influenced by the creativity of her father, a graphic designer and a storehouse of ideas, and realistic seascapes of Ivan Aivazovsky. Olena illustrated several books, and is an author of coloring book for children. After moving to USA 10 years ago she is working on creating seascape oil paintings, and also gives art lessons to children and adults.
Olena`s favorite thing is to capture through oil on canvas the ever-changing variety and character of the marine element and its inhabitants, as well as human interaction with the world of the ocean. She loves sketching and photographing scenic views of the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean shores while traveling and uses these sketches and photos along with her memories of being at the seaside for inspiration to create original seascapes at her home studio. She also spends a lot of time with children, teaching them painting, and therefore she also loves to create fairy tales about the Ocean on canvas.
Olena is an exhibiting member of Pittsburgh Society of Artists Guild. Her paintings have been in various exhibitions, including solo shows. Her art has won awards, including a number of First Places and Best of Shows, and are in private collections in the USA, Europe and Asia.
