About Mike Brown

  • Biography
Painting is a very deep, personal pleasure for me. The majority of my work is of the Yorkshire Dales and Moors which are beautiful parts of the UK and provide endless opportunities. Landscapes, I feel, should have a liveliness about them perhaps conveyed through the movement of animals or even by the changes of light, especially as the shadows of clouds sweep across a hillside. My intention is to give the viewer a convincing sense of place; I do not aim for photorealism but I enjoy the illusion of detail that can be created in various ways. I always work in oil as it provides great scope for tonal contrast which adds depth and solidity to my work. The Yorkshire countryside never ceases to give me pleasure and it's that enjoyment I want to share with the viewer. I want to suggest the atmosphere of the location; for the viewer to feel as if he or she could be there. I also love painting portraits. Because of the time they take my output is slower than the landscapes but I relish presenting a double or even a triple portrait which suggests the relationship that I see existing between the sitters. So why Artfinder? - simple, really: I love painting, I love being alongside other artists and I love my pictures being owned and enjoyed by others. I have pictures in all continents through face to face sales but now want to extend opportunities via a well-established, respected on-line platform. I hope you enjoy the pictures.
