About Michael Woodman

  • Biography
    Cornish based Landscape Artist.
    Michael John Woodman (1961)
    Cornwall, United Kingdom
After studying illustration at Falmouth School of Art and Design, I settled down into a career working as a freelance technical illustrator in Cornwall. Whilst alongside work and family life, I developed my passion for fine art and had the opportunity of selling paintings through various local galleries.
My inspiration to create art comes from the wonderful Cornish coastline and landscape around my home, extending up to the beautiful moorlands all offering perfect views for painting.
In terms of mediums I like to use oil, acrylic and watercolour on various surfaces like canvas, board, wood and paper applied with brush and palette knife. Experimentation is a crucial element of my style, as I like to incorporate impressionism and abstraction, constantly searching new ways of depicting mood and atmosphere. I cannot stay in one place in terms of style and move with how I am inspired and feel at the time of painting. This allows me to keep my approach fresh and opens new possibilities in how to depict a scene.
So either working in my studio, en plein air, gathering sketches and photographs or walking to soak up local scenes, I have an ever growing passion for producing my view of Cornwall.
I hope you enjoy my work.
    Thank you for visiting.
    Michael
