Architectural Photographer of the Year 2016

Winning one of the biggest awards in Architectural Photography was a huge boost to my career back in 2016. It led to a host of work and some fantastic collaborations and features.

    Underground

    Underground

My first exploration love was caving, I tried taking my cameras with me to get good images within the tight, wet, rocky spaces under the Welsh mountains. But in most cases all I got was a broken camera. This is what lead me onto my current passion for shooting in abandoned buildings, it somehow feels similar to caving but your camera gear doesn't get broken as often.

I am drawn to these vast cavernous spaces it seems. I tend to shoot all kinds of locations but industry holds a particular fascination for me. The huge factories, power stations and steel plants of northern Europe are my playgrounds.Symmetry is everywhere, texture is plentiful and colour is often surprisingly present too.

    Box Freestone Quarry

Still underground now but this is a halfway house between caves and man made structures. I feel more confident taking my camera equipment into a place like this. The sense of wonder and awe shooting in a location such as this is incredible. My photo studio is ever changing and usually quite fantastic.
