About Lucy Elizabeth Jones

  • Biography
I am fascinated by the idea of process and construction. My starting point is to photograph construction/demolition sites, civil engineering projects and structures. My work is dominated by dynamic compositions and contrasts, bold use of paint, colour and varied techniques. I assemble my paintings using ordered processes utilizing the interplay between control and unpredictability. I include serial numbers to remind me that the finished whole is greater than the sum of it's parts. Artists such as Gerhard Richter, playing with the way we see images, allowing the paint to be paint, have had a massive impact on my work. I admire the sheer physicality of artists like Yves Klein and Fabienne Verdier but sculptors like Eduardo Chillida and Richard Serra have the greatest physical and emotional effect on me.

It is a unique chance for visitors to peek behind the scenes, experience this normally hidden world and get to chat to the artists and crafts people about their creative process.

    CHART art collective
CHART is a small, Cheshire based collective of
visual artists interested in the ability of art to
communicate on an intuitive and intellectual
level. The artists have a particular interest in the
links between all the arts and sciences, and in
structure, time, words, numbers and symbols. They
share a deep sense of the connectivity of human
experience, our relationship with nature and the
importance of spirituality. References to all these
elements are evident in their work. Their new
exhibition COAST examines the elemental nature
of our shorelines, the interaction of land and sea as
well as the beauty and power of the littoral.
