About Liz Friel

  • Biography
Contemporary abstract paintings...Atmospheric, layered with color, ethereal and coastal-inspired landscapes on canvas and board. Abstract painting communicates emotion and thought in an alternative perspective. The idea of communication that is further involved is about memories, the unconscious, and how the image in the painting resembles something. What does it evoke? Certain images, textures and compositions can cause emotions and visions to surface yet still lay vague to the viewer. My intention is in hope that viewers will find something under the surface, to look beyond the obvious. Some of my motivation emerges from an attraction to the line, light, and space designs in interior areas and architecture. However, it really comes down to creating art because I need to for myself. Originally from New Jersey and now residing in South East Florida with my husband, artist, Dennis Friel, and our 2 children. Art is a huge part of our daily lives with canvases and paints in every corner!

My work can be found online and in our Connected By Water Gallery in Pompano Beach, FL.
