Plein air in Pine Grove of Pardes Hanna. November 2021

This wonderful pine grove is in few minutes walk distance from the studio. Of course it was the 1st choice for plein air. Amazed by pine trees, I came there to paint their golden trunks and moving shadows but I couldn't take my eyes from thickets of bugenvilija at the background and started to develop them. I was very enthusiastic and complete this painting in one shot, doing all work a-la-prima. When I was into my final strokes, going to complete the painting, I discovered big figure in black walking white dog - right against me. Lady was fully concentrated on her telephone and seen nothing around. They stuck "in frame" for a while - enough to paint them into the landscape.

Due to relocation to the North region of our beautiful country I got great opportunity to discover new exciting locations to paint. The land is in bloom and I keep my brush up ! :-D

Plein Air in Ein Karem, Jerusalem

Plein Air in Ein Karem, Jerusalem

Had two lovely days painting in Jerusalem . It was a long-term desire, that finally came into reality. I arrived Jerusalem about 9 AM , spent about an hour for looking around in search for a good place to stay ( it's about the view, about parking nearby and more then anything else - about shadow or expectation of shadow because September is still hot) . I can't call it peaceful time, because until I found the nice location and unpacked all tools and materials - the team of street cleaners came to wash the pavement . If you have never been in Jerusalem , you should know that all the city is built from white "Jerusalem stone", and also part of pavements built from the same white stone. Of course it's getting dirty very fast, so it washed with chloral once a while. The plein air started in stressful way : guys brought noisy compressor and bumping water-machine, switched it on and the street turned into a stream of dirty foam. Meantime the sun rose higher, the light begun to change into noon, it got hot and I begun to be frustrated . When they were done and left - my shadow place became so narrow that it didn't cover even a palette. Plein Air work is always stressful . These two days turned into the fight against annoying factors and the rest of work was done "in spite of" nasty terms. I came to conclusion that extreme conditions rise a high survival skills ;-) At fact this painting is one of the best of 2014.

    The butterfly meadow

What a charming place - 'The butterfly meadow" (Schmetterling Wiese) ! Unexpected patch of wild nature right behind the UNO city in Vienna (Austria). Pleasant and productive watercolor plein air in summer 2013

Workshop : "Under the jacaranda trees" - May 2014

Workshop : "Under the jacaranda trees" - May 2014

At this time of the year, the jacaranda tree fills with amethyst-colored clouds of trumpet-shaped blossoms. Even the ground can become carpeted with the vivid lilac-blue color. It is said that if you walk under a jacaranda tree and one of the delicate blossoms falls on your head, you will be favored by fortune. I’m not sure about fortune, but this gorgeous blossom is short-term treasure – it lasts couple of weeks and then flowers are crumbling. I do my best do not miss the Jacaranda Season and usually do massive painting sessions under the jacaranda trees.

    Red flowering trees

    Red flowering trees

It's the red blossom season. Remarkable tree, fully covered with large red flowers, is called "Royal Poinciana" or "Flamboyant" ( "Gulmohar" in India and "Llama del Bosque" in Guatemala). The tree's vivid red/vermilion flowers and bright green foliage are an exceptionally striking themselves, but petal carpet on the ground and extensive lacy shadow makes it exceptionally attractive.
