About Jenny Liu

  • Biography

Known as being ethereal and atmospheric, my work reflects my fascination with mountains and the medium of watercolor, as well as the intention of finding calm and serenity in life through the process of art making.    Beautiful mountains of Western Canada and the Pacific Northwest provide endless inspiration in my creative journey.

Influenced by Impressionism, Abstract Expressionism, traditional Chinese ink painting and contemporary Japanese paintings, over the years I have developed my own unique visual vocabulary. My work is driven by the intuitive journey of exploring the boundary between the real and the imagined.  It is my hope that these semi-abstract landscape paintings would pull the viewer deeper into the imagery reinforcing a sense of calm and serenity.

When studying Landscape Architecture at university forty years ago, I took courses on drawing and watercolor.  Over the years have learned to work in harmony with this inherently creative medium.   I really feel that every piece of work is the result of an artistic exploration and a conversation between my soul and the divine power of the universe.

After working in the profession of landscape architectural design for more than thirty years, in 2018 I listened to my own inner voice and started painting full time. Since 2021 my watercolor paintings haven been selected into  many juried exhibitions in Canada, Japan and USA, including winning one of the Bronze Award in one of the international art competition. My watercolor paintings are in private collection in Canada, USA and Singapore.
