About Jenny Alsop

  • Biography
I was one of the Top 200 Watercolour Artists in the World in 2022, at the International Watercolour Artist Exhibition, Lilieshall Hall, in 2022. I am delighted to say that I also came in the Top 200 in the World again this year, 2024.

I was Chairwoman of the South Wales Art Society, Cardiff, from 2019 until 2022.

In 2016, I won the Artist of the Year Award for Wildlife in the SAA's  prestigious Open Competition, for my watercolour painting entitled "Plight of the Bumble Bee". There were over 5,000 entries.
In 2017, my Bee was exhibited in London at the prestigious Mall Galleries. Princess Michael of Kent opened the exhibition. It was a delightful day for me!

In 2017, I won the SAA's Artist of the Year Award, this time for a Portrait. There were over 5,000 entries, narrowed down to 200 for the final judging. The portrait, entitled 'Arnold Lowrey, Artist and Friend', was then exhibited at the NEC in Birmingham in November 2017, where thousands of people were able to view it.

I love painting in Watercolour. I particularly love to paint flowers and animals, but enjoy snowscapes too. I find that the more I paint outside my "comfort zone", the more I enjoy the challenge that comes with it. I am open minded about styles of painting and enjoy a variety of artworks in different styles eg. from Constable and Monet to Shirley Trevena, Jean Haines, Charles Reid, Arnold Lowrey -  all of them being my inspiration. My love of flowers and animals makes me want to let people see the beauty in them that I see. If I can convey this to anyone else, I feel that I have acheived my goal. I hope you like my work and it lifts your spirit.

I have exhibited my work at "The Mall Galleries" in London, "Patchings Arts Centre" in Nottingham and at the NEC, in Birmingham.
Locally, I have exhibited at "The Pierhead Building" in Cardiff ,and
"The Taliesin Art Gallery" in Swansea.

In 2014 and again in 2015, I was shortlisted for the magazine cover of the "Ken Bromley Cover Competition", with my paintings entitled, "Autumn Lights", ( 2014)  and  "The Eyes Have It", ( 2015).
In 2017, my painting entitled, "Woodland Foxgloves", was the front cover of the SAA's magazine, "Paint".

I have had articles published in "The Leisure Painter", as well as in "Paint".
I have also been featured in, "The South Wales Echo" on occasion.

All of my artwork is in Watercolour and is sold unframed.
Giclee prints of my art are available on request and made to any size.
