About James Dinnen

  • Biography
I am from a family of  artists with my grandfather and uncle's being hugely talented amateur artists .As such I was encouraged in art  from an early age and have experimented with different styles through the years always trying to improvise and develop my own style. I attended Glasgow School of
Art part-time for four years  to study oil painting.
These days I  use a bold vibrant  palette various  blue and purple mixes to bring  vibrancy and added drama to my work.I particularly enjoy painting contemporary urban scenes and landscapes , with occasionally  retrospective urban scenes with a modern twists in colour from my home city of Glasgow and landscapes from the  beautiful west of Scotland. . Although I do have a fairly identifiable and individual signature style at present and  aware it can be frowned upon to have various styles I refuse point blank to uniquely limit myself to one  style and on occasion when it suits my  mood I will work in a totally different style for the a particular  painting if it suits the work and  just to break the monotony of continuous single style of work.

I  am currently a member of the prestigious Glasgow Southern Art Club,  Eastwood Art club and have been involved in various other art clubs and groups over the years. I was formerly a member of the Paisley Art Institute and exhibited at their annual shows at Paisley Museum and Art Gallery. I show and sell work at local galleries and local exhibitions as it suits and sell a lot of prints and paintings privately via art fairs and similar events.

My work sells very wall and adorns walls everywhere from New York  to New Zealand and from Rawanda to Bermuda.

I have previously exhibited  a large scale painting at the Scottish  National Gallery, Princess Street, Edinburgh in an open Scottish Artist /Craftsmen (SAC) Exhibition(panel selection by art establishment ) where it subsequently hung right next to Jack Vettriannos painting during the exhibtion.
