    Swans, swans and more swans...

These seem to be my fixation at the moment so here's some work in progress (nearly done...) to wet the appetite for next year's shopfront.

    Water water everywhere

    Water water everywhere

Waterfalls have taken me over since I brought my painting back indoors after the summer; my workspace is filling up with watery scenes propped up at different angles where I can scrutinise them for the next stage of their edit. Watch out for these coming into the shop soon along with some contemporary new framing options to bring this subject-matter right up to date.

    Painting in the garden

    Painting in the garden

This year was something else for being able to paint out doors; in fact, I did all of my painting in the garden from about June until early October, setting myself up under the tree that provides perfect afternoon shade so that I can see what I'm working on. There's a whole different quality to working outside, tuned into the rhythms of birdsong and leaves rustling in the tree (alright, and some traffic noise...but I mostly manage to tune that out) compared to being inside. Even though I work from (to start with) photo references but, mostly, my "inner landscape"rather than the view in my back yard to inspire my paintings, the natural influences certainly fed into my artwork this year providing a more meditative and playful quality than usual and I look back on it as a time of pure creative magic. So, as I wrap up warm by my draughty window and lament the early-darkening afternoons for interrupting my flow, I say "roll on Spring 2017" and those halcyon painting days again...

    Incandescence

A garden at midsummer sunset becomes an ethereal landscape of long shadows and radiance...a poetic look at the painting "Incandescence".

Book signing at Gallery Fifty Five

Book signing at Gallery Fifty Five

The opening of this exhibition doubled-up as my book signing for the autobiographical account of how art transformed my life (and my health) which recently appeared in a best-selling series of short inspirational stories that has included contributions from the likes of lifestyle guru Marianne Williamson. It was brilliant that Freda, the gallery owner, encouraged me to promote my book at the same time as showing off my collection of art and it certainly opened up some deeply philosophical conversations about how art makes people feel. Hopefully, I managed to inspire quite a few people to pick up their brushes long before their retirement, which is what many of them seemed to have told themselves they were waiting for, as creativity is such a gift and a game-changer at any time of life (don't get me started as I could talk about this for hours).

    Emergence

A meditative look at this piece from many angles to appreciate the way the light and the layers work with the paint to bring it to life.

American Art Awards received in 2014 & 2015

American Art Awards received in 2014 & 2015

This is one of my three American Art Awards received this year, as featured in Highlight Hollywood Magazine (this one was for "Portrait of a Girl - Blossoming, my first attempt at human portraiture so not a bad result in an international competition with submissions from around 50 countries). A year earlier, I received an American Art Award for my popular painting The Yellow Window, now sold, which remains one of my most sought-after prints to this day.
