Biography
Artist Statement
My paintings celebrate human experiences influenced by positive relationships & spiritual awareness. Often, I will use the female (and occasionally the male) nude to communicate my own experiences of female vulnerability, empowerment & freedom. I do this by using bright colours & dramatic compositional elements. This process invites the viewer to consider their own emotional responses to my paintings; fostering empathy, spirituality & creative changes for their own future life & happiness.
My Artist Practice
My central practice is life painting. I have studied the human figure for over 30 years. I develop life studies into final paintings in my studio; changing the composition & adding context to explore a theme or particular idea in a painting. When I combine the figurative with the abstract within the same painting I will use colour washes to unify the compositional elements. Sometimes I use mixed media. Colour is my chosen means of emotional expression.
I find the collaborative experience of creating commissions very fulfilling! It really enriches and informs my creative practice 😊
Please message me directly via Artfinder messages with questions about my art in other formats or materials. I love to chat through ideas with my clients !
Commissions
There are many reasons someone might think about a commission. A client’s brief can be of a highly personal nature; commemorating a moment in time (e.g. a loved one’s passing, a wedding anniversary) or maybe an idea to develop someone’s personal hobby or interest (e.g. to express some experience or part of one’s own identity or symbolise their relationship with other beings e.g. animals or people or objects e.g. aeroplanes).
As a mental health nurse with some training in counselling I’m interested in all these ideas. However, I’m especially interested in portrait memorials. I think the idea of creating an image which celebrates the life of a special person who has passed could be one of the best reasons to commission an artist. Anyone considering a commission is very welcome to discuss their ideas with me. I’m currently working on a memorial portrait for my father which I would be happy to share.
Prices are negotiable depending on size and media. Memorial portrait commissions could be created in a painting but mixed media and sculpture with loved one’s objects or belongings could be appropriate.
