About Gilly Cotter

  • Biography
My inspiration comes from the natural world; including wildlife and its relationship with the natural environment. I like to represent the world around me by interpreting the shapes, the spaces in between, and the textures.
A landscape is not just something to which people belong. Land is more than simply a place, it is the source of the many different human responses to the environment and its other occupants.
Seascapes - The water is highly reflective, it also stimulates internal reflections within the observer. Unlike the land, water has a constantly changing and dynamic surface.
I work and experiment in various media, predominantly; print-making and oil painting.
In May 2022 four of my oil paintings were chosen for the Prestigeous Delamore Arts annual exhibition.
BA (Hons) in Fine Art, Bristol.

Event: Contemporary Passions, South Hams Arts Forum

    Dates: 29 Jun 2021 - 11 Jul 2021

Venue: Harbour House, Kingsbridge, Devon, England

I will be exhibiting mainly pastels and oil paintings of work inspired by the local landscapes and coastlines.
Approximately 10 SHAF artists will showcase their latest work, at this annual event that has established a growing reputation for excellence and diversity.
The South Hams Arts Forum is an active collective of over 100 artists and crafts people from across the South Hams. SHAF mounts an annual Arts Trail in the second half of October which extends across the region, and two major exhibitions at Harbour House Gallery, Kingsbridge: Contemporary Passions in the summer, and Present Maker in early December.

    Event: Pressing Ahead

    Dates: 25 May 2021 - 6 Jun 2021

Venue: Harbour House, Kingsbridge, Devon, England

In the spirit of pressing ahead after lockdown, seven members of the lively printmaking group at Salcombe Art Club present an exhibition of recent work. Collagraphs, monoprints, lino cuts, wood cuts, etchings, monotypes and drypoints are all displayed - techniques and images as diverse as the artists, but all sharing the universal principle of transferring an image to paper from a prepared plate to create an original work of art. Printmaking is a complex craft, with unpredictable results, which is all part of the appeal for artists with a taste for risk and invention. Last year some of the aritsts collaborated on a delightful handmade book project, using linocuts to depict a colourful fruit salad.
