About Emmy Ivanova

  • Biography

I am an artist, currently based in Glasgow, who graduated with an Animation and Film Making Degree at Middlesex University in London a few years back, with a lot of love for visual story telling, design, children's illustration and concept art.

Most of my artwork is an exploration of my imagination and memories from real life, often inspired by children's books I used to have and I now read to my wee toddler. My favourite ones were all set in magical worlds, featuring forest animals or tiny people living in mushrooms, or inside trees, or caves or under the sea. Worlds in which witches and dragons were not only real but the norm. These creatures were always finding themselves in all kinds of adventures and I loved imagining I am part of them. The images I remember most vividly, the ones I starred at for hours and hours, were full of colours and endless details. Every time I looked at them, there were entirely new things I would notice.

Designing characters, setting up magical worlds, and telling stories to people by visualising them on paper or digitally has always sounded like the perfect thing to me.

I inject a lot of love in each and every piece of artwork I make. Each has been created over months of research and development to the finished product, with a lot of patience and attention to detail, which I hope is translated. The majority of my work is done by hand on watercolour paper or handmade Indian paper with watercolours, with pen details for clarity and pencils for shading. I like to imagine people will get one of my paintings, putting them up on their wall, and getting lost in them, forgetting the stress of everyday life for at least a few seconds. I do hope you love every painting as much as I did while creating it.
